Like most girlie girls, I love discovering new beauty products and I’m always on the lookout for new lines and ideas. The flurry of activity and the entrepreneurs who are impacting this space also really excites me.
However, there are five products that, despite all of that, have withstood the test of time and managed to stay in my arsenal for, well, as long as I’ve had an arsenal. 😉 Unlike many products that catch my eye these days, these go-to staples can all be purchased at your local drugstore.
1. Noxzema Cleansing Cream
I can clearly remember my Scottish Grandmother, who had absolutely beautiful skin, telling me as a young girl (she was in her 90’s) that the secret to her gorgeous complexion was Noxzema. She used it every day.
This is a staple for me each night before bed. It’s gentle and cool and I can’t imagine another smell or sensation replacing it. It seems to leave me with a balanced complexion and cleans deeply, but not at all harshly. I’ve tried other products, but none have compared.
2. Saint Ive’s Apricot Scrub
At the other end of my beauty routine, is St. Ives Apricot Scrub. I slather this exfoliating scrub on my face each morning before I step into the shower. It wakes me and my face up, minimizing the appearance of pores and getting me ready to face the day.
3. Maybelline Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover
Keywords here are “oil free.” Maybelline also makes a “moisturizing” version that I find way too oily. This makeup remover does an excellent job of completely removing even the waterproof eye makeup without leaving behind a trace or residue. I use this, rinse, then reach for the Noxzema each night. I tend to buy it in multiples when I find it because it sells out fast.
4. Infusium 23 Leave In Treatment
I have very long hair and nothing compares to the healthy and silky feeling just a bit of Infusium 23’s Leave In Treatment provides. After my shower, having shampooed and conditioned my hair, I work in some of this great stuff and comb it through before blow-drying. I also use it as a de-tangler for my daughter’s hair, which saves us quite a bit of angst. It smells really nice, too.
5. Cover Girl Clean Foundation
Every once in a while, I am tempted to try other foundations, and always do I return to Cover Girl’s Clean line. It is oil free and light and provides an even complexion. What more can a girl ask?
